Sister's Birthday Cake

I made this cake back in January, the whole style of the cake was new to me, and quite risky. I wanted to make a cake for my sister's 30th birthday, and since she never had a dream birthday cake as a child, I wanted to make this one super special. So I knew it had to be Cinderella themed as it is her all time favorite Disney movie, and it had to be baby blue her favorite color.

This cake was a venture into the unknown for me, and it took several weeks of online researching, chatboards, and you-tube videos to come up with the master plan. I have never worked with a ball cake pan, or attempted to make a pillow cake and have never carved a cake for that matter, and it was my first time making a champagne cake with champagne filling and my first time making fondant sculpted characters (the mouse). This cake was a complete learning experience, and I plan to build upon it. The cake turned out great, and my sister's reaction to the cake, made the stress and weeks of preparation totally worth it.
